Heja Rahiminia

Born 1986, Kurdistan, Iran. Lives and works in London, UK.

 

His multidisciplinary practice explores migration, borders, systems of control, censorship, statelessness and the ways in which identities and histories are shaped, divided, concealed and erased. Working across photography, video, installation, sculpture and printmaking, he draws on personal archives, historical images, found materials and documents to examine the political structures that shape movement, belonging and memory.

Growing up in Marivan, a border city in Kurdistan, (Between Iran and Iraq), Heja experienced the border as a physical and political presence in everyday life. This experience continues to inform his practice, where borders are considered not only as lines that divide territories, but as structures that regulate movement, produce difference and determine how people and places are seen and identified.

His works often bring together images, objects, architectural elements and archival materials, transforming or reconfiguring them through processes of printing, cutting, layering, erasing and concealment. Through these material interventions, he examines the relationship between personal experience and larger political and historical systems.
