45 Pages is part of a series exploring censorship through the physical alteration of books.

The work returns to a photography book from the Time-Life Photography series that I first encountered as a photography student at the University of Art in Isfahan. In Iran, imported non-Persian art books were inspected after purchase, and pages containing nude images could be censored, marked, or physically removed. In this particular book, an entire section on the techniques and styles of nude photography had been cut out. At the time, I could only identify the missing images through their page numbers.

Twelve years later, I encountered the same book in the library of the Royal Academy Schools, where the uncensored pages were present. 45 Pages brings these two encounters with the same book together, across two libraries, two countries, and twelve years.
